Earthquake resilience goes beyond ensuring that a building remains standing. The performance of non-structural elements can also play an important role in life safety, evacuation, and a building’s ability to continue operating after an earthquake.
This topic was highlighted during the seminar “Building Resilience Against Earthquakes: From Life Safety to Operational Continuity,” organized by HAKI, Universitas Indonesia, ACI Indonesia, and ACI Western Indonesia Chapter, in collaboration with Hilti and IFC.
Representing PT Hilti Nusantara, Dana Lutfi Ilmansyah, S.T., M.Sc., Codes & Approval Manager, presented “The Role of Non-Structural Elements in Safety and Operational Continuity During Earthquake Conditions.”
The seminar brought together academics and industry practitioners to discuss seismic design, non-structural components, and earthquake-resilient buildings from multiple perspectives.
Through knowledge-sharing initiatives like this, Hilti supports greater awareness of the importance of considering seismic risks early in building design. A more comprehensive approach can help project stakeholders look beyond structural integrity and consider how buildings can better support life safety, effective evacuation, and operational continuity following an earthquake.
