  • Huy Anh Rubber Co., Ltd. partners with KOLTIVA to ensure compliance with the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), paving the way for sustainable rubber production in Vietnam, transparent supply chain practices, and ensuring their products meet the stringent international standard.
  • KOLTIVA, a global agriculture and supply chain traceability company, draws on over 11 years of expertise supporting over 10,800 businesses across 61 countries, leverages its traceability platform, KoltiTrace MIS to collect and manage data from Huy Anh’s rubber plantations in Vietnam, Laos and more countries where Huy Anh operates in the future. Additionally, the company provides on-ground support and training to ensure effective data collection by Huy Anh’s field agents.
  • KoltiTrace MIS allows Huy Anh to assess their EUDR compliance according to a high standard as the methodology is accepted by many major tire manufacturers, hence enhancing the company’s marketability within the European Union, aligning with the increasing demand for sustainable materials.

Jakarta, September 04, 2024 – Huy Anh Rubber Co., Ltd., a prominent player in Vietnam’s rubber sector, has taken a significant step toward sustainability by partnering with KOLTIVA, a leading sustainable agriculture and supply chain traceability company. This collaboration aims to ensuring full compliance with the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR),  a critical regulation that raises the bar for sustainable practices by mandating zero deforestation in the production of EUDR-related commodities. As Vietnam continues to assert its leadership in the global rubber industry, the EUDR inspires companies like Huy Anh Rubber Co., Ltd. to embrace enhanced compliance measures, highlighting the nation’s broader commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable development.

The production of natural rubber in Vietnam has experienced considerable growth since 1961. With its expansive rubber plantations, Vietnam is the third-largest rubber exporter in the world, contributing approximately 8.7% of global rubber production (The Investor Vietnam, 2023). In 2021, Vietnam’s rubber production reached an impressive 1.3 million metric tons, with the tire industry consuming a substantial 70% of this output (Statista, 2024). The nation’s rubber is not only a critical component in tires but also finds applications in various sectors, from automobile parts to medical equipment. With its substantial production, Vietnam’s rubber sector is keen to maintain market access to the EU by adhering to the EUDR requirements, prompting the businesses to follow suit.

Huy Anh Rubber Co., Ltd., established in 2014 and headquartered in Thua Thien Hue, Vietnam, operates three processing plants—two in Vietnam and one in Laos—where it produces high-quality natural rubber products such as SVR10/TSR10, TSR20, RSS3, SVR3L, SVRCV60, Masticated Rubber, and Compound Rubber. With the demand for sustainable rubber products grows, Huy Anh is significantly expanding its cultivation area, with projections to increase from 3,000 hectares in 2024 to 15,000 hectares by 2025. Given the vast yet fragmented nature of its small-scale cultivation areas, it is crucial for Huy Anh to develop a comprehensive traceable supply chain that links its factory, suppliers, and producers.

In a significant move, Huy Anh has enlisted the expertise of KOLTIVA to achieve EUDR compliance. KOLTIVA’s innovative supply chain traceability and EUDR solutions are designed to help companies navigate the complexities of the regulation. Through this collaboration, Huy Anh aims to enhance its supply chain transparency, ensuring that its products are not only sustainable but also free from deforestation—a key requirement of the EUDR.

Le Thi Hong Mai, Deputy Director of Huy Anh Rubber Co., Ltd. shared their perspective on the collaboration, “Our partnership with KOLTIVA marks a pivotal moment in our journey towards sustainability. The EUDR sets a high bar for environmental responsibility, and with KOLTIVA’s expertise, we are confident in our ability to meet these standards. This collaboration not only strengthens Huy Anh’s position in the global market but also reinforces our commitment to responsible business practices.”

koltiva

The KoltiTrace MIS platform, developed by KOLTIVA, will play a crucial role by offering comprehensive supply chain mapping and risk assessment capabilities to ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements. It simplifies the process of documenting connections in Huy Anh’s supply chain.

As part of the process to map producers and farms, KOLTIVA trains Huy Anh’s field agents who work closely with processors and suppliers to map approximately 10,000 smallholders within the processors’ supply chains using the KoltiTrace MIS mobile application. These field agents then conduct comprehensive farm and risk assessments for each producer, ensuring a thorough understanding of the associated risks within the agricultural landscape through the application. The KoltiTrace MIS supports traceable transaction data from plantation to processor, ensuring reproducible data with detailed origin information, including farming data collection, producers’ profiles, and verified transactions.

The KoltiTrace MIS also plays a crucial role in deforestation and legality verification, featuring automatic deforestation checks using annually updated Sentinel satellite data and local protected area maps to assess producers’ legal compliance. To meet EUDR requirements, KoltiTrace MIS facilitates the automatic generation of Due Diligence Statements, including GeoJSON format polygons and risk assessments, simplifying the process for Huy Anh to complete the data required by their buyers.

Manfred Borer, CEO and Co-Founder of KOLTIVA, emphasized the importance of working together with Huy Anh, stating, “The European Union’s Deforestation Regulation represents a critical step towards global sustainability. We assist Huy Anh, our rubber client in Vietnam, by ensuring that their products comply with the stringent requirements of the EUDR. Through our KoltiTrace MIS platform, we offer them comprehensive supply chain mapping, real-time risk assessment, and deforestation monitoring. This allows for precise tracking from plantation to processor, enhancing transparency helping Huy Anh’s commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable practices.”

koltiva 1

Starting in September 2024, Huy Anh will offer rubber products that comply with the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), ensuring that its customers in the EU receive products meeting the highest environmental standards. This will ensure that they can provide the best products with enhanced marketability as it opens new opportunities in the EU market, where consumers and businesses are increasingly prioritizing sustainability.

Huy Anh’s commitment to sustainability, supported by KOLTIVA’s holistic solutions, positions the company as a leader in the rubber industry. As Vietnam continues to expand its role in the global rubber market, collaborations like this will be crucial in driving the industry toward a more sustainable future.

Shattering the Silence: Addressing the Culture of Fear Surrounding Whistleblowing

image-20240809185315-1

This publication is authored by and reflects the views and opinions of Integrity Indonesia PT. More information about Integrity Indonesia PT is available at www.integrity-indonesia.com.

Employee silence often signifies circumstances in which employees withhold critical information that could prevent the organization’s downfall. When something is amiss at work, employees face a tough choice: stay silent or speak up. Sadly, in many cases, they choose not to speak up, fearing that revealing information might be seen negatively or as a threat.

The media recently reported that tribunal claims in the USA involving whistleblowing rose by 92% between 2015 and 2023. The number of tribunal cases involving detriment or dismissal following whistleblowing has also increased. This suggests that many whistleblowers still experience retaliation for reporting misconduct.

The deaths of two Boeing whistleblowers, currently under investigation, coupled with reports of threats directed at another whistleblower, have heightened apprehension among individuals contemplating the disclosure of misconduct or fraud. Another case is a former Google employee who allegedly faced termination after revealing unethical practices within the tech giant. These cases may only represent the tip of the iceberg, underscoring the gravity of the situation faced by whistleblowers in general.

The Culture of Silence

Many countries have enhanced protections for whistleblowers, with Japan, for instance, recently implementing amendments to its Whistleblower Protection Act (WPA). Despite these governmental efforts to strengthen whistleblower protections, the fear of retaliation may continue to deter employees from coming forward.

This apprehension, which extends to former employees as well, is rooted in a pervasive culture of silence and secrecy in many workplaces, which discourages the reporting of misconduct or illegal activities. The increase in tribunal cases involving detriment or dismissal following whistleblowing can support this notion. The fact that these cases end up in tribunals indicates a company’s failure to establish an effective system for responding to reports due to cultural issues.

Many organizations, whether intentionally or unintentionally, perpetuate a culture of “praise in public, criticize in private,” a mindset that can persist even in the presence of robust whistleblower policy and protection laws. This culture of silence, akin to the fear that speaking out may cause harm, remains prevalent in countries with strong collectivist workplace cultures, such as Indonesia.

In Indonesia, despite the legal framework established by the Law on Protection of Witnesses and Victims since 2006, which provides legal protections for whistleblowers, the underlying culture of silence continues to challenge the effectiveness of these protections.

Breaking the Silence: A Hope for Change

Breaking this culture is such a purge. It may be an uncomfortable and unfamiliar process that takes years and requires a strong commitment, but it will be essential for long-term sustainability.

The change should be initiated from the top management. Leaders must go beyond slogan and actively foster a climate that encourages reporting by enacting policies that protect whistleblowers from retaliation, providing clear channels for reporting violations, and ensuring fair treatment for those who come forward.

Additionally, educating their employees about the importance of whistleblowing and the protection available to them is essential. Government agencies and regulators should continue to enforce laws protecting whistleblowers and hold employers accountable for retaliation against whistleblowers.

This effort should also focus on improving the reporting process and providing support and resources to whistleblowers. While existing laws on protection are significant steps forward for whistleblowers, there is still a long way to go in breaking the culture of silence in the workplace.

Whistleblowers are vital in identifying and preventing harmful practices. It is crucial that they receive protection from retaliation and the support they need to speak out. By working together, we can shatter the silence and create a more transparent and accountable workplace, benefiting everyone involved.

  • The Aceh Singkil district government and 11 stakeholder representatives signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the 2024-2026 Aceh Singkil Landscape Vision for Sustainable Palm Oil (SPO) Governance and officially launched the Multi-Stakeholders Forum Dashboard to promote sustainable agriculture practices in Aceh Singkil.
  • Aceh Singkil District’s significant potential, with 77,512 hectares of palm oil plantations managed by companies and independent smallholders, contributing 31.8% to the district’s Regional Gross Domestic Product (PDRB) in the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries subsector.

Jakarta, Wednesday 24th July 2024 – The Aceh Singkil District Government, together with Swisscontact, KOLTIVA, and other stakeholders, recently held a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony about Sustainable Palm Oil Governance 2024 – 202 and launched the Aceh Singkil Multi-Stakeholder Forum (MSF) Dashboard on Sunday, July 7, 2024. Representatives from 12 entities signed the MoU, including the Aceh Singkil District Government, KOLTIVA, Swisscontact, Forest Management Unit VI (KPH VI), Yayasan Inisiatif Dagang Hijau (YIDH), Yayasan Ekosistem Lestari, Forum Konservasi Leuser, Yayasan Hutan Tropis, PT. Sari Dumai Sejati (Apical), PT. Musim Mas, and Aceh Singkils’ Indonesian Palm Oil Association (APKASINDO).

The Leuser Ecosystem and the Rawa Singkil Wildlife Reserve (which includes Aceh Tenggara, Subulussalam, and Aceh Singkil) are vital for environmental protection and represent the last and greatest opportunity to preserve Sumatra’s biodiversity. Despite its protected status, the Leuser National Park has lost one-fifth of its lowland green area due to commercial activities in the past five years. Aceh Singkil District, with the potential 77,512 hectares of palm oil plantations managed by companies and independent smallholders, contributes 31.8% to the district’s Regional Gross Domestic Product (PDRB) in the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries subsector. The district is also home to the Rawa Singkil Wildlife Reserve, which provides a natural habitat for the Sumatran tiger, Sumatran elephant, and Sumatran orangutan.

Koltiva 3

This multi-stakeholder initiative aims to address sustainable plantation issues and enhance productivity and sustainable palm oil production volume by 30% through intensification over the same period. Recognizing the importance of balancing sustainable economic growth, environmental protection, and social welfare, all parties are committed to ensuring a sustainable future for Aceh Singkil. This initiative highlights the need for a Sustainable Palm Oil Action Plan to position Aceh Singkil’s palm oil as a globally recognized commodity, promoting a greener and more sustainable future for the region.

Koltiva 4

The MoU provides a framework for optimizing regional growth in Aceh Singkil through accelerated sustainable development among four key pillars: environmental, economic, social, and sustainable governance. The environmental pillar focuses on protecting forest ecosystems and enhancing biodiversity. The economic pillar is dedicated to sustainable land productivity and improving producers’ livelihoods. The social pillar emphasizes inclusive multi-stakeholder engagement to address social inequalities and conflicts. Lastly, the sustainable governance pillar prioritizes structural support and administration for sustainable oil palm action plans.

Koltiva 5

At the MoU Signing Ceremony event, Drs. Azmi M.A.P., Acting Regent of Aceh Singkil, remarked, “The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding and the launch of the Multi-Stakeholder Forum Dashboard represents the tangible commitment of the Aceh Singkil District Government to establish this area as a sustainable jurisdiction with optimal oil palm productivity and maximum protection of forest ecosystems, particularly the Singkil Swamp Wildlife Sanctuary.”

Swisscontact, as one of the forum members, is committed to creating sustainable production landscapes where economic development coexists with environmental protection and collaborates with KOLTIVA to develop the dashboard.

“This collaborative effort aligns diverse issues, interests, and resources into a unified force striving for a shared objective: sustainable development in the palm oil sector. This marks the beginning of the journey towards integrated Sustainable Palm Oil in Aceh Singkil. With the guidance of the Sustainable Palm Oil Action Plan mechanism and successive measurable achievements, we hope this effort will generate progressive advancements with enduring impact,” said Christina Rini, Project Manager Sustainable Landscape LASR, Swisscontact.

Koltiva 6

The Multi-Stakeholder Forum (MSF) Dashboard is an essential tool for monitoring and reporting on the activities of regional stakeholders, facilitating the effective implementation of landscape vision indicators. This platform tracks the progress of MSF initiatives, showcasing the collective actions and efforts of members based on established achievement indicators.

Developed collaboratively by MSF Aceh Singkil members, this dashboard is powered by KOLTIVA, a sustainable farming and supply chain traceability startup in Indonesia. The Badan Perencanaan Pembangunan Daerah (Bappeda) of the Aceh Singkil District Government will oversee the dashboard’s operation through the MSF secretariat. Key features include Robust Reporting Management, where members can monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) across economic, environmental, and social pillars, all presented in an easy-to-read graphical format. It also enables members to submit and report on their activities outputs and their outcomes. The dashboard can also be linked and embedded to external institutional websites, enhancing transparency, and embedded into other platforms for broader accessibility. Additionally, KoltiTrace MIS offers various support functions, including event management for organizing activities and tracking attendance, email blasts for efficient mass communication, and a shared library for documents and videos related to activities.

Koltiva 7

Manfred Borer, CEO and Co-Founder KOLTIVA added, “As we harness the vast potential of Aceh Singkil’s palm oil plantations and agriculture production, it is imperative that we establish a governance framework that fosters sustainable practices through multi-stakeholder collaboration. The development of the Multi-Stakeholder Forum (MSF) Dashboard through our robust traceability platform KoltiTrace MIS, allows all stakeholders to collect and monitor essential data on natural resource management while also advancing a Sustainable Palm Oil Action Plan. This centralized reporting dashboard ensures transparency for all stakeholders and aligns economic growth with environmental stewardship and social well-being. At KOLTIVA, we are dedicated to empowering companies, governments, and stakeholders to track their progress toward sustainable supply chains, ensuring that Aceh Singkil’s agriculture products and palm oil production are globally recognized for its commitment to sustainability.”

The Rise of Conscious Consumption: Unveiling Ethical Shopping Trends for Sustainable Products

  • Consumers have taken significant steps to safeguard the planet. Remarkably, more than 60% of consumers aimed to create a positive environmental impact. Challenges such as affordability and distrust pose significant barriers to sustainable shopping purchases. (Source: Euromonitor International).
  • Greenwashing can lead to a loss of consumer loyalty, trust, and satisfaction with products. 48% of consumers indicated a willingness to scale back purchases from brands that fall short of sustainability promises, and 14% would never but their product/service again (Source: Shift-Sustainability).

Jakarta, Wednesday, 12th June 2024 – A profound change in consumer habits is taking center stage. Today’s consumers have evolved beyond mere purchasers; they are informed decision-makers who value the environmental, societal, and economic impacts of their buying decisions. This movement towards conscious consumption has become increasingly popular in recent years as consumers become more aware of the adverse effects of consumerism on the environment and society. In recent years, more consumers have strived to make a positive impact with their purchases, choosing brands that uphold ethical and sustainable practices such as fair trade, against forced and child labor, deforestation-free sourcing, and implementation of Good Agriculture Practices. In fact, over 64% of consumers tried to positively impact the environment through their everyday actions (Source: Euromonitor International).

Leading this charge is KoltiTrace SHOP, the foremost eCommerce destination in Indonesia for sustainable shoppers, powered by KOLTIVA (Indonesia-based sustainable agriculture and supply chain traceability startup operating in 61 countries worldwide). It stands as a beacon for this evolving trend, offering conscious consumers easy access to ethically sourced goods crafted through responsible and sustainable practices.

Koltiva 3

Unsustainable consumption habits are contributing to environmental degradation and unethical production practices. The demand for cheap, readily available goods often leads businesses to resort to harmful methods that lead to deforestation, extreme weather events, and labor exploitation. These practices not only deplete natural resources but also undermine the rights and livelihoods of communities. The urgency for consumers to support ethical and sustainable production has never been clearer. The time to act is now. It’s time to shop sustainably and consume consciously.

Koltiva 4

Sustainability is not just a selling point or added value; but an essential ingredient for shaping a better tomorrow. Brands and businesses that neglect sustainable product development and responsible sourcing or engage in greenwashing face missing out on the rising demand for ethical consumption that prioritizes minimizing environmental and social harm. Greenwashing can lead to a loss of consumer loyalty, trust, and satisfaction with products. 48% of consumers indicated a willingness to scale back purchases from brands that fall short of sustainability promises, and 14% would never buy their product/service again (Source: Shift-Sustainability).

Therefore, businesses must adopt transparent procedures and ensure traceability throughout their supply chains to sidestep greenwashing and maintain credibility. This entails thorough supply chain verification and traceable transactions to ensure that every stage, from sourcing raw materials to delivering the final product, upholds sustainable and ethical norms. By wholeheartedly committing to sustainable initiatives and fostering clear communication, brands can cultivate consumer trust, showcasing their products as genuinely eco-conscious, and socially accountable.

In response to this consumer trend, KoltiTrace SHOP offers mindful consumers affordable access to trusted items produced through responsible and sustainable practices via www.koltitraceshop.com. Each product is guaranteed to be free from environmental harm and social exploitation, ensuring no links to deforestation or forced and child labor during production. With a commitment to transparency, KoltiTrace SHOP eliminates greenwashing by providing 100% traceability for every product. Consumers can simply scan the QR code to track the origin and production process, giving them confidence that their purchases align with their values and contribute to a more sustainable and ethical world.

Reiterating the importance of sustainability and conscious consumerism, KoltiTrace SHOP introduces Eco-Conscious Week. The initiative not only highlights local brands committed to sustainability but also emphasizes the power of responsible consumption through a hyperlocal community-driven initiative. This initiative showcases and supports products that are deeply rooted in their local communities, emphasizing sustainability and social responsibility. Featured products include JIKA Chocolate, an artisan and sustainable chocolate bar 100% made in Indonesia, and āluān, a woman-led social enterprise producing sustainable raw virgin coconut oil. Other notable products available on KoltiTrace SHOP include Aceh Gayo Arabica Coffee from SUGATA Coffee, Flores Manggarai Arabica Coffee from local producers in East Nusa Tenggara, Coconut Sugar from Kulonprogo Yogyakarta (Geographical Indication Certified), Amed Sea Salt from Bali, Java Preanger Tea from Bandung Selatan, and Trigona Honey from East Belitong. By choosing these products, consumers are making a difference.

Manfred Borer, CEO and Co-Founder of KOLTIVA, highlights the significant benefits of choosing KoltiTrace SHOP. “This solution not only helps businesses implement transparent supply chain practices and demonstrate a commitment to ethical sourcing and responsible business practices, but also attracts consumers who prioritize these values in their purchasing decisions. Equipped with a robust traceability platform, KoltiTrace MIS, a product by KOLTIVA, businesses can provide digital tags in the form of QR codes that consumers can scan for supply chain details, ensuring their goods are traceable and free from deforestation and labor exploitation. It also enables consumers to directly contribute and make an impact by appreciating smallholder producers and tipping them through Tip the Producers feature. By emphasizing these benefits, we aim to promote sustainable production and trade, and attract more businesses and consumers to our platform,” said Borer.

He added that implementing a transparent supply chain with a traceability platform is crucial for businesses to prove their commitment to sustainability and responsible sourcing. Businesses can also increase consumer trust by obtaining sustainable certifications to showcase their commitment to sustainable practices, sourcing products locally to reduce their carbon footprint and support local producers. Conscious consumption entails making purchasing decisions with a heightened awareness of their environmental and societal impacts.

“Eco Conscious Week is a ‘Hyperlocal Community-Driven Initiative’ aimed at raising public awareness about the importance of shopping sustainably and consuming consciously. By promoting conscious consumerism, the movement empowers individuals to choose products that do not harm the environment or society. It also highlights the necessity for businesses to adopt responsible practices, ensuring proven traceability and avoiding greenwashing. Eco Conscious Week strives to inspire both consumers and businesses to contribute to a more sustainable world through informed choices and ethical practices,” Borer added.

Echoing on the importance of traceable supply chain to ensure sustainability, Jane Dunlop, CEO at āluān, also points out the significance for more businesses to adopt traceability systems in the future. “Working with KOLTIVA, we have set up full traceability so that when people buy our product, they can trace all the way to the farm and the producers where it originated. That really brings the work that we are doing with producers and environment to the buyers. This is the most important tool we have for sustainability,” said Jane during Eco-Conscious Talks, one of the Eco-Conscious Week sessions.

KoltiTrace SHOP, a product by KOLTIVA, hosted Eco-Conscious Week, a hyperlocal community-driven initiative to promote sustainable shopping and conscious consumerism. The event, featuring environmentally conscious individuals and purpose-driven brands, including Jika Chocolat, āluān, Rappo Indonesia, and Slow Fashion Indonesia, aimed to inspire individuals and businesses to adopt ethical practices and make informed choices that benefit the communities, environment and society.

The initiative also aims to advocate for conscious consumerism, sustainable lifestyles, and community empowerment. It concluded with a community event in Jakarta during Car Free Day event amplifying the message to the public through activities in collaboration with Rappo Indonesia and Gerakan KeBIKEan to promote sustainable living habits, conscious consumption, community inclusion and empowerment. Through these efforts, KOLTIVA hopes to inspire lasting positive change in consumer behavior and sustainable business practices.

The Role of Mystery Shopping in Detecting Fraudulent Activities

Mystery Shopping - Integrity Asia

This publication is authored by and reflected the views and opinion of Integrity Indonesia PT. More information about Integrity Indonesia PT is available on www.integrity-indonesia.com.

In today’s highly competitive market, businesses constantly seek innovative ways to ensure exceptional service while safeguarding their reputation. One effective strategy is mystery shopping, a practice that offers invaluable insights into service quality and adherence to operational standards. Not only does it serve as a tool for performance evaluation, but it also plays a pivotal role in identifying and mitigating fraudulent activities that can jeopardize a company’s financial health and credibility.

As the name suggests, this activity is conducted covertly by trained investigators or mystery shoppers who pose as regular customers. How does mystery shopping uncover fraudulent activities? One approach is through product purchase tests, frequently conducted both online and offline.

Detecting Fraudulent Activities

In the effort to uncover fraudulent activities, product purchase tests often serve as scenarios where companies task mystery shoppers to buy specific items. Through these purchases, companies can evaluate employee behaviour in serving customers, their adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and identify gaps in internal oversight at their outlets. From various indicators, potentially fraudulent activities can be detected.

  1. Direct Observation of Procedures

Mystery shoppers can observe and report whether employees follow the procedures during transactions. For example, SOPs may require cashiers to provide purchase receipts to customers after each transaction.

Hence, it’s common to see signs at cashier counters stating “Free, if no receipt”. Receipts not only serve as proof of purchase but also offer additional benefits to customers, such as loyalty programs or discounts for future transactions.

  1. Transactions Verification, Discount Monitoring, and Promotions

Mystery shoppers can note transaction details, including amounts paid and change received, then compare this data with the receipt to ensure no discrepancies.

For instance, in a case, a cashier provided a receipt to a customer, but there was a discrepancy between the items purchased and those listed on the receipt, even though the amount paid matched what was stated. Such findings could indicate fraud.

Moreover, mystery shoppers can also check whether discounts and promotions are applied correctly. If employees offer unauthorized discounts or exploit promotions for personal gain, it can be reported as fraudulent behaviour.

Therefore, companies need to conduct further investigations to determine whether these discrepancies were intentional or the result of human error.

  1. Observing Internal Oversight Gaps

Internal control plays an important role in ensuring operational compliance and reducing the potential for fraud. In another case, for instance, at a fast-food outlet, their SOP stipulates that food served must be kept in the food warmer holding cabinet for only a few hours to maintain quality. However, each outlet also has targets to minimize food wastage.

In this case, the findings from mystery shopping revealed that the quality of the food served did not meet expectations. With such findings, the company should initiate a thorough investigation, exploring the potential shortcomings in internal controls at their outlets.

Focus on findings and investigation

Prioritizing findings and investigations are crucial in the ongoing activities of mystery shopping programs.

Findings may not always be directly conclusive evidence, but often the information recorded in reports can serve as valuable clues for companies to conduct further investigations. This allows companies to take appropriate and decisive steps to protect their assets, enhance integrity, and improve service quality for their customers.
